There is a thread that connects and flows through the disciplines listed here:

Theatre, Musicology, Popular Culture and Film

Before anything I am a human being with sensitivities and observations and because of this there is a deep need, old as the earth itself, to express those observations and sensitivities.  Next, I am an African American Male; I mention this because the effects of our sociological western structure have had an effect upon me as a man of color.  To share those observations and sensitivities with the masses and to further explore an understanding and a natural pride, there exists the craving to explore the culture of the African American diaspora as both an artist and an aesthete.

I am not narrow minded and as a human being I consider myself a well-rounded individual.  I appreciate Hoffman, the music of The Beatles, the work of Andy Warhol and Martin Scorsese.  As I crave a thorough understanding of modern culture, I will present to the table through this gallery the ties that bind African American Theatre, African American Film, Musicology, and Popular culture.

There is a throughline that connects and flows.  Jacqueline Kennedy once said that "culture is important because it expresses the life of a people."  And through this salon, we will explore the eloquence of a people:  the writings of Zora Neale Hurston, the opera styling’s of Leontyne Price, the innovations of Owen Dodson's Howard University Theatre, advances in the field of fine arts pedagogy and the fusings of Hip Hop and Jazz-exploring and analyzing the components of what creates the art.  Yes an artist creates but she/he is not entirely responsible for the work.  It is also her/his experiences; the current events of the world play a role, and circumstances that have occurred during the creative process.

My training is rooted in the dramatic theatre and Humanist Pedagogy.  My life experiences range from playing in a Rock and Roll band to teaching in a lower economic southern region to directing an independent film.  Here lie the branch disciplines of L. Roi Boyd, III
