Mrs. Johnson is a forty eight year old female patient that has worked at the local high school for the past 25 years. She has served school lunches to two generations of students. Mrs. Johnson is well known in the community and a well respected member of the local Marston Area Baptist Church. She has been attending services there since she was a small child. Mr. Johnson doesn't attend the church, instead he attends the local bar every Friday and Saturday nights. He is well known to the local community members but for very different reasons than Mrs. Johnson. Both of Mrs. Johnson's mother is still alive but in poor health relying on care from Mrs. Johnson. Her father died at the age of 72 from liver failure.
She comes to the clinic because she has been losing weight, despite her efforts not to. She reports
that she feels hungry and thirsty all of the time. For the past week, she reports having no energy and her husband tells you that she sleeps
12-14 hours per night. She has been missing work because of her illness and that is beginning to cause some undue financial strain.
Her husband tells you that she suffered a similar episode after she had their kids. The family has three children. Mrs. Johnson tells you that
this is very different. Back then she was ate a lot and gained weight. Mr. Johnson tells her that she is crazy and needs some more of those
happy pills that they gave her before.
When Mr. Johnson leaves to go to the restroom, Mrs. Johnson tells you about numerous recent vaginal fungal infections that she has had.
Additionally, she tells you that she and her husband have been arguing a lot lately. She reports that he is a heavy drinker and that she drinks
occasionally. You notice that she smells of alcohol at this time.
