Sound

This project is a sound experiment with words. I call it "The KeyWord." The piano keys are intended to be played—clicked on.
Each key has a word attached to it and each sound loops three times. The end user can make his/her own music with this instrument. By clicking on readable words, you will be able to identify meaning. The scratched keys will sound like "damaged" words.
I recorded Neal Wyatt speaking all of the words in different spaces with different resonance and materials—water, paper tube, resonant stairwell, etc. I processed the sounds in Soundtrack Pro and Logic Pro before creating a container for the interface in Adobe Flash CS4. The most fascinating part of this project for me is that each melody you play could never be repeated again. The faster you play, the more unexpected of a combination you will encounter.

Lee Bloxom and I collaborated on a project in our MATX 600 course. We were to exchange our stories and to edit them for our sound project in Sony SoundForge software. Lee's story was fascinating, but I was more interested in background sounds and in sounds that the door and the elevator were making as an accompaniment to Lee. It became an experiment in how many interpretations one sound piece my land. Each listener will hear his/her own story in this piece.

Please wait for audio to load. Click on the play button to listen. Adjust your sound level accordingly.
