Influences

The majority of my influences for both my career in horror entertainment and my academic research in cult movies stem from low-budget exploitation films. Though these films are often deemed by the larger society to be lacking artistic merit and using sleazy elements to gather an audience, I find something in these films that inspires my work. They are often just as artistic, deep, and symbolic as any arthouse films. I’m also inspired by how these films can blur lines of taste, morals, ethics, decency, and art. Instead of writing what could potentially be several encyclopedia volumes on the qualities I feel make certain low -budget exploitation films great, I have selected my top five choices. These are the films that I feel have been cornerstones of my work thus far, encouraging me to further explore cinema, marketing, and audience reception.

Note on My Note- I have had several dynamite flash teachers who worked with me to create the flash pieces in my portfolio including professors at VCU, a class at the 92nd Street Y in New York City taught by Martin Rashidi, and work with flash genius Rob Feldman of Earworm Media.
